Bot Grid
Where the grid can be painted
Section titled “Where the grid can be painted”Bots can only move on the bot grid, and the bot grid can only be painted inside a square of 35 m × 35 m. The square reaches 17.5 m from its center in each direction. In a small room this covers everything. In a large hall it may not: if the square is not centered in the hall, one end of the hall can fall outside it. Painting there then does nothing, and bots can never go there.
A hall larger than 35 m in either direction can never be fully covered.
Where the square lies depends on the headset:
The square’s center is the spot where you stand when you create the map. If you create the map near the entrance of a large hall, the far end can fall outside the square.
Adding Spatial Markers to the map does not move the grid: it stays where it is in the hall.
Every map is placed at the headset’s LBE origin: the point set during PICO’s LBE (large space) setup. The square is centered on that origin. Where you stand when you create the map makes no difference.
Centering the grid on a new map
Section titled “Centering the grid on a new map”- Stand roughly in the middle of the hall.
- Create a new, empty map with Create Map. Do not start from a template or a preset map: those bring their own grid placement.
- Set up the map as usual: press Marker and scan your markers. Then build your map and paint the bot grid.
Set the LBE origin in the middle of the hall when you create the LBE map, before you build any map in the game. See PICO’s LBE documentation for where these settings are on your headset.
- In the headset’s LBE settings, create the LBE map. At the Calibration of Origin and Forward direction step, stand roughly in the middle of the hall and press the trigger.
- Share the LBE map with every headset, so they all use the same origin: deploy it from PICO Business Device Manager, or export it and import it on each headset.
- Leave Long press the Home button for calibration off, so that players cannot move the origin.
- Create your map in the game and paint the bot grid.
To check the result, open Bot Grid. A new map starts with its bot grid already painted within about 5 m of the grid’s center, shown as the green grid on the floor. In a small room the walls cut this area off; in a large hall you can see its round edge, 10 m across. Check that the painted area is centered on the middle of the hall.
Recentering the grid on an existing map
Section titled “Recentering the grid on an existing map”Do this before painting the bot grid: Erase All erases everything painted on the grid so far. Objects and the rest of the map are not affected.
If the map is placed by your headset (no markers):
- Stand roughly in the middle of the hall.
- Press Realign. When the map can be moved, press Done without moving it.
- Open Bot Grid and press Erase All. The grid is now centered where you stand.
- Paint the bot grid.
If the map is placed by markers:
- Stand roughly in the middle of the hall.
- Press Anchor. The map is now placed by your headset at the spot where you stand, instead of by the markers.
- Open Bot Grid and press Erase All. The grid is now centered where you stand.
- Put the map back on its markers: press Marker and scan the markers again.
- Paint the bot grid.
The grid is always centered on the LBE origin, so the only way to move it is to re-calibrate the origin.
Erase All and Move Map
Section titled “Erase All and Move Map”Erase All moves the grid’s center to whatever places the map at that moment. Move Map moves the grid along with everything else on the map.
Erase All always centers the grid on the LBE origin, even if you have moved the map with Move Map.
